Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire made a goal scored early in the match stand in a 1-0 victory over MacMurray College in the battle for the Ferris Trophy on Wednesday at Jorge Prats Field.
Knox retains possession of the trophy after
winning the inaugural Ferris Trophy match a year ago against MacMurray in Jacksonville. The trophy is named after George Ferris, the inventor of the Ferris Wheel who has connections to both Galesburg and Jacksonville.

Delsey Ramirez (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park) provided all of the scoring in the contest when she took a pass from sophomore
Madison Dana (Lafayette, CO, New Vista) and kicked in her fifth goal of the season at the 14:50 mark.
Both teams had other chances to score, but Knox senior goal keeper
Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) and Highlanders' goalie Samantha Frye each stopped the five shots sent their way.
Koene earned her first solo shutout of the season. She also has two shared shutouts with teammate
Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) a first-year goalie.
The Prairie Fire (5-2) outshot MacMurray 12-6 overall and 6-5 on goal. The Highlanders (2-5) are the second straight opponent Knox has shut out.
The Prairie Fire downed Iowa Wesleyan College 9-0 at home on September 14.
The Knox women's soccer team is off to its best start after seven matches in over two decades. The 1990 squad also won five of its first seven matches and finished the season with a 10-4 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in conference play.

The Prairie Fire open the Midwest portion of their schedule at home against Ripon College on September 21 at 11:00 a.m. The Red Hawks (3-3) are also playing their first league contest after falling to Edgewood College 3-1 on September 15.
