Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire's bid for a third straight win was halted by Ripon College at Jorge Prats Field on Saturday.
The Red Hawks used three goals from Brandi Peltier and defeated Knox 6-1 in the first Midwest Conference match of the season for both teams.
Peltier assisted on the first goal by Ripon's Mikayla Huesman at the 14:48 mark. Peltier followed with goals at 20:33 and 34:39 for a 3-0 lead.
The Prairie Fire (5-3, 0-1 MWC) were credited with a goal when the Red Hawks scored on their own end 36:57 into the contest. Ripon maintained a 3-1 advantage at the break.
The Red Hawks (4-3, 1-0 MWC) increased the lead to 4-1 when Alyssa Kennedy scored at the 52:37 mark. Peltier's third goal came less than two minutes later, and Ripon concluded the scoring on a goal by Kali Doerr with a little over 90 seconds left in the match.
The Red Hawks outshot Knox 27-3 overall and 17-2 on goal.
First-year
Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) recorded seven saves in goal over the final 45:11 for the Prairie Fire.
Knox will try to rebound on Sunday at home against Lawrence University at 11:00.
The Vikings (1-4, 0-2 MWC) fell 2-0 at Illinois College on Saturday. Lawrence has been outscored 9-0 during a current stretch of three consecutive losses.
