Rock Island, IL – The Prairie Fire came up short in a pair of matches against two teams coming off strong seasons in 2012.

Augie had 20 wins a year ago and is off to a good start in 2013.  The Vikings (4-2) downed Knox 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-12) on Wednesday at the Augustana Triangular which also featured Coe College.

Sophomore Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield Central) had a double-double for the Prairie Fire with 10 assists and 11 digs.

Junior Katie White (Peoria, IL, Peoria Notre Dame) contributed a pair of service aces to go along with three kills and two digs.

Knox followed with a match against Coe, another team with 20 victories last season -- including a 6-1 mark in the Iowa Conference.  The Kohawks defeated the Prairie Fire 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-16) and Augustana 3-2 to sweep the triangular.

Senior Kaylie Prince (Westminster, CO, Standley Lake) finished with seven kills and 14 digs, Stachelski added 15 assists, two aces, and 10 digs, while first year Madison Pierro (La Jolla, CA, Tri City Christian School) had a match-high 16 digs against Coe (4-2).

Next up is the Prairie Fire Invitational on September 6 and 7 at Memorial Gymnasium.  Knox (1-3) opens the tournament against MacMurray College on September 6 at 3:00 p.m.

Coe College is also among the teams in the field, but the Kohawks and the Prairie Fire do not meet in the tournament.
