Prairie Fire score one first, two second place finishes in season-opener

Galesburg, Ill. – The Prairie Fire track and field teams placed in the top five in more than a half-dozen events and established six new all-time top 10 marks during the season-opening meet.

Knox hosted the six-team Fire Starter Invitational at T. Fleming Fieldhouse on Saturday.  The other teams competing in the unscored meet were fellow Midwest Conference member Illinois College, Culver-Stockton College, Ashford University, and Grand View University.

Senior Danielle Erikson (Mokena, IL, Lincoln-Way East) led the Prairie Fire women's squad with a first place finish in the 60 meter dash.  She also placed fourth out of 13 runners in the 200 meters and fifth in the long jump.

Sophomore Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) finished second in the 3000 meter run.  Her time of 11:55.89 ranks ninth on the all-time top individual 10 list for the event.

Also turning in top five performances at the meet for the Knox women's team was sophomore Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) in the 800 meters and sophomore Grace Neubauer (Inverness, IL, William Fremd) in the mile.  Goncalves placed third and Neubauer crossed the finish line fourth.

Senior Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) had the second-best shot put throw of the meet.  His heave of 46' 6 ¼" is seventh on the all-time top 10 individual list.

Sophomore Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) added a fifth place finish in the 3000 meters and senior Devin Compton (Aurora, IL, West Aurora) had a weight throw distance of 44' ½" that moves him up to #7 on the all-time individual list and resulted in a sixth place finish in the event.

Three other men's runners achieved all-time top 10 times in the 60 meter dash.

Sophomore Ian Horne (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva) ran the race in 7.66 seconds to move up to #2 on the all-time top 10 individual list.  Sophomore Sam Reading (Tennesse, IL, West Prairie) wasn't far behind Horne, running the race in 7.72 seconds for third on the all-time individual list.  Fellow sophomore Hamad Alizada (Denver, CO, Martin Luther King) turned in a time of 7.93 seconds that ranks sixth on the all-time top 10 individual list.
