Box Score MONMOUTH, Illinois – The Prairie Fire fell behind by double-figures in the first half and lost to Monmouth College 86-54 in Midwest Conference play on Wednesday night at Glennie Gym.
Knox (1-5, 0-2 MWC) struggled to make shots, finishing at 34.5 percent (19-of-55), including 3-of-15 from behind the 3-point line. The Prairie Fire also committed 20 turnovers that led to 25 points for the Fighting Scots.
The game was close for the first 10 minutes with Monmouth leading 15-11. An 8-2 run gave the Scots their first double-digit lead, 23-13, with 8:17 to go in the opening half.
The Prairie Fire twice cut the deficit to single-digits, the last time on a jumper by senior
Dillon Eighner (Hoopeston, IL, Hoopeston) at the 4:09 mark, before Monmouth took control.
The Fighting Scots (3-2, 2-1 MWC) outscored Knox 12-5 over the last four minutes to extend the lead to 42-26 at halftime.
Monmouth scored the first four points of the second half to push the lead to 20. The Prairie Fire got as close as 53-34 on a layup by sophomore
Robert Suntken (Naperville, IL, Naperville Central) with just over 15 minutes remaining.
The Fighting Scots took their biggest lead of the game at 86-51 with 1:05 to play.

Orlando Brown (Chicago, IL, Hinsdale South) led Knox in scoring with 15 points. Eighner chipped in with nine points and sophomore
Mike Martin (Metamora, IL, Metamora) corralled a team-high nine rebounds to go along with two blocks and two steals.
The Prairie Fire look to regroup against Lake Forest College in a Midwest Conference game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
