Reyes Highlights Track and Field Teams at IC

Jacksonville, Ill. – The Prairie Fire took first place in a long-distance race, one of four top five finishes by individuals at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday.

Illinois College hosted the 16-team meet.  Knox placed 10th in the women's team standings and 13th in the men's competition.

Sophomore Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) won the 5000 meters in a career-best time of 19:52.08, more than four seconds faster than the runner-up in the race.  Reyes moved up two spots to fourth on the Knox top 10 all-time individuals list for the women's 5K.

Sophomore Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton College Prep) ran her fastest time in the 800 meters, 2:33.06, and crossed the finish line fifth to add to the Prairie Fire's point total.

The women's squad also scored in the distance medley relay by placing fifth.

First-year James Lenihan (Oak Lawn, IL, Oak Lawn) had the top individual placement for the Knox men's team.  He was third in the shot put with a season-best throw of 44' 8 3/4" that ranks 10th on the all-time individuals list.  Senior Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) placed fifth in the shot with his throw of 43' 9 1/4".

Also scoring for the Prairie Fire men was sophomore Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International).  He finished eighth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:03.21 and climbs to sixth on the all-time individuals list.

The 4x400 relay team secured an eighth place finish as well (3:47.77).

In addition, sophomore Sam Reading (Tennesse, IL, West Prairie) ran the 60 meters in a personal-best time of 7.59 seconds, which is second on the all-time individuals list.  Sophomore Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) added his name to the all-time individuals list in the mile.  He finished in 4:51.89 and now holds down the #10 spot.

Lincoln College placed first in the men's team standings.  Greenville College, Truman State University, host Illinois College, and Culver-Stockton College rounded out the top five.

Truman State won the women's meet.  Maryville University, IC, Lincoln, and Greenville placed second through fifth.

The Prairie Fire track and field teams compete in the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Invitational on February 15.  The meet is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
