Women's Soccer Can't Come Back at Westminster

FULTON, Missouri – A comeback bid by the Prairie Fire from two goals down came up short in a 3-2 loss at Westminster College on Sunday.

The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead with a goal 15:20 into the match.  Knox responded with a successful penalty kick by first-year Kelsie Pos (Salt Lake City, UT, Skyline), her second goal of the season, at 36:18 to tie the contest 1-1.

Westminster (3-2) regained the lead early in the second stanza on a goal at the 49:12 mark.  The hosts held their biggest advantage at 3-1 following another score at 71:34.

The Prairie Fire (1-4) cut the deficit to one on the second goal of the year by first-year Shea Pierce (Joliet, IL, Joliet West) with about 90 seconds to play.  Westminster held on from there.

The Blue Jays outshot Knox 12-4 overall and 7-4 on goal.

Sophomore goalie Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) recorded four saves for the Prairie Fire.

Knox pays MacMurray College a visit on Wednesday as the teams play at 2:00 p.m. in the annual Ferris Cup match.  The Prairie Fire hold a 2-0 edge in the rivalry.
