Coe Slips Past Women's Soccer Team

NORTHFIELD, Minnesota – The Prairie Fire continued their solid defense, but were unable find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Coe College on Sunday in the ACM Soccer Showcase.

The Kohawks scored within the first four minutes of the match to stake to a 1-0 lead.  The Knox defense held the rest of the half.

The Prairie Fire (0-3) were able to mount more of an offensive attack against Coe after the break.

After getting off one shot in the first 45:00, Knox came back with six shots in the second half to have a chance at getting on the board.

Coe (1-3) added an insurance goal for a 2-0 lead 59:35 into the match.

Sophomore goalie Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) stopped seven shots for the Prairie Fire.  On offense, senior Nadia Tapfumaneyi (Harare, Zimbabwe, SOS-Hermann Gmeiner) led the Knox attack with three shots – one on goal – and first-year Jacqlynn Milligan (St. Louis, MO, Visitation Academy) got off two shots, one of which was saved by Coe keeper MJ Winterer.

The Prairie Fire play their first match at Jorge Prats Field on Wednesday, September 10 against Eureka College at 4:30 p.m.
