Box Score DE PERE, Wisconsin – The Prairie Fire were unable to slow down #19 ranked St. Norbert College in an 87-45 Midwest Conference loss on Saturday.
The Green Knights (13-1, 9-0 MWC) ran their winning streak to 33 in a row against MWC opponents.
St. Norbert took command early by scoring the first 14 points. Knox snapped the run with a basket by senior
Dillon Eighner (Hoopeston, IL, Hoopeston) five minutes into the game and trimmed the deficit to nine (16-7) on a 3-pointer by sophomore
Robert Suntken (Naperville, IL, Naperville Central) with 12:45 remaining.
The Knights answered with a 19-4 run to stretch the lead to 35-11 with 5:17 to go, and then held the Prairie Fire to seven points – five by first-year
Caylab Herrera (Middletown, DE, Middletown) – the rest of the half for a 45-18 advantage at the break.
Knox shot 23 percent (7-of-30) against St. Norbert's sticky defense through the first 20 minutes. The Green Knights connected on 48 percent (13-of-29) from the field and outscored the Prairie Fire 18-2 at the free throw line.
St. Norbert ran off six straight points and led by 36 when Herrera hit from 3-point range to give Knox (4-10, 2-7 MWC) its first field goal of the second half with 14:39 to play.
The Prairie Fire couldn't get closer than 29 points the rest of the game.
Knox shot 28 percent (16-of-57) overall against SNC, which finished at 48 percent (28-of-58). The Knights made 21 more foul shots than the Prairie Fire and posted a big 52-22 edge on the glass.
Suntken and Herrera led Knox in scoring with 14 points apiece.
The Prairie Fire will try to get back on track at Illinois College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Knox can sweep the season series with a win after defeating the Blueboys 68-58 at home on December 9.
