GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire football team opens the new season on Saturday, September 5 at Eureka College in the Fourth Annual Lincoln Bowl.

All three of the previous Lincoln Bowl games have gone down to the wire, and the last two have been decided by a combined seven points.  Knox took possession of the Lincoln Trophy with a 26-23 win over Eureka at the Knosher Bowl to kick off the 2014 season.  The Prairie Fire scored 20 points in the final six minutes, including the game-winning 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Matt Mc Caffrey (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) on the last play that capped a 90-yard drive in less than 90 seconds.

Knox finished with 349 yards of offense while holding the Red Devils to 246.  In addition to his touchdown on the ground, Mc Caffrey completed 16-of-26 passes for 192 yards and two TDs.  Receivers Mathew Hemmingsen (Galesburg, IL, Carl Sandburg College) and Ilir Emini (Yorkville, IL, Yorkville) teamed up for 12 receptions and 130 yards, and defensive back Armand Stricklin (Lee's Summit, MO, Lee's Summit West) intercepted a pass and returned it 71 yards for the Prairie Fire.

The scene shifts next to Eureka's McKinzie Field, where Knox fell 21-17 in the 2013 Lincoln Bowl.  The kick-off is scheduled at 1:00 p.m.

Knox leads the all-time series against Eureka 17-7-1, including an 11-3 edge in games played on the Red Devils' home field.
