GALESBURG, Illinois—
Brennan McGlauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) capped off a great career for the men's track and field team in 2016.
McGlauchlen set the school hammer throw record with a heave of 151' 6" on April 23 at the University of Dubuque after four years of competing in all of the throwing events. He went on the throw even farther at the Midwest Conference meet, shattering his old record with a throw of 157' 4" and placing sixth.
"I just wanted to have my name on some kind of record for track and field. I actually thought it was going to be shot put for the longest time," explained McGlauchlen. "However, I began getting close to the hammer record this year and so the coach, my teammates, and I knew there was a good chance that I could get it this year. It was very exciting to have gotten this record considering my parents were also at the meet."
The culmination of four years of hard work often pushes athletes beyond their physical barriers in many ways. Throws coach Devin Compton added, "I think the funniest thing about Brennan is that he hated Hammer and Indoor weight throw during the first three or so years. This year, I think all of his hard work the last two years brought it all together for him. He is a really good and hardworking individual and I have been happy to watch him grow over the 2 years of competing with him and the two years that I have been coaching him."
Looking back at his time at Knox McGlauchlen said, "The track and field team here at Knox has been awesome and I am so lucky to have been a part of it for all four years. One of my favorite memories was when the team went to Olive Garden before the Conference Meet. It was really fun and relaxing just eating and joking around before the meet. It may sound lame but that was one of the most memorable experiences."
