ST. LOUIS, Missouri—The Prairie Fire volleyball team lost to Webster and Adrian on September 3 to complete the Baden Invite at WashU.
Knox (0-4) dropped their first set against Webster 13-25, but rebounded in the second two sets to fall 20-25 in each. The first set was close until Webster scored 10 of the last 11 points. The second set was back and forth, but after a 15-15 tie the Gorloks took control. The third set was close until the end, but Webster scored the last three points to secure the set and the match.
Kyleigh Guthals (Clovis, NM, Clovis),
Erin Hettinger (Lindenhurst, IL, St. Joseph Catholic Academy), and
Rose Griffin (Maryland Heights, MO, Rosati-Kain) provided a balanced attack with four kills apiece to lead Knox.
Keiyah Triplett (Chicago, IL, Westinghouse) finished with 16 digs and
Emily Mosher (Glen Ellyn, IL, Glenbard West) picked up 12 assists.
The match against Adrian was much like earlier in the day. After a 16-25 showing in the first set, the Prairie Fire led 19-17 in the second set. The score went back and forth with each side exchanging leads until Adrian managed to come away with the last four points of the set. Knox again held a narrow lead in the third set at 18-17 thanks to a 6-0 run, but Adrian edged them 25-23 in the end.
Triplett added 20 more digs in the second match, while Mosher contributed 16 assists. Griffin managed 11 kills.
The Prairie Fire return to action at Eureka on September 6 and play their home opener against Iowa Wesleyan on September 7.
