RIPON, Wisconsin—Men's tennis competed at Ripon College earlier Sunday afternoon, playing three doubles matches and six singles against the conference opponent.
Coming out of the gate, the pairing of sophomore Jared Schwarz and senior Ganesh Uppalapu played an extended and hard-fought match ending in a 9-8 defeat. Knox would bounce back in the middle contest with an 8-2 trouncing at the hands of junior Jeffrey Xue and first-year Brad Newland. Coming off this victory Knox would fall in a finishing match played by first-year Matt Bailey and senior Hank Horo
witz at a score of 8-3.
Moving into singles play, the Prairie Fire continued to exhibit strong play. Jared Schwarz would start things off with two decisive victories of 6-0 and 6-2, before Jeffery Xue and Ganesh Uppalapu came up on the short end of two hard-fought contests. Closing out the 1v1's, Knox's Brad Newland was able to close out a match forced to three sets, getting the win 7-5, 1-6, and finally 7-6 to deny a three-match streak to the Hawks and return momentum to the Prairie Fire. With a score of 5-7, 1-6 in a Matt Bailey defeat, Ripon got another shot in before Hank Horowitz completed a three-set match of his own. Horowitz pulled the victory out in the final break after opening with a victory of 7-6, then replying to a 6-7 defeat with a handed 6-3 finish to end the day on a high note for the Prairie Fire.
Knox will return to action on April 9 when they travel to Monmouth for another conference match.
