Volleyball Falls at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – The Prairie Fire volleyball team fell 3-0 at Lake Forest in a conference affair on Saturday afternoon.
 
Autumn Schneider got the first kill of the game for the Prairie Fire to tie the game 1-1. The game would remain tied until Catessa Duran provided back-to-back kills for Knox College to make the score 4-2. Soon after, Lake Forest went on a 3-point run to take a 7-5 lead. 
 
Another kill by Autumn Schneider would make the score 9-8. The Foresters crept ahead and soon led 18-11 en route to a 25-14 victory in the first set.
 
The next set started on the right foot for the Prairie Fire as Autumn Schneider had a kill for the Prairie Fire. Lake Forest then sprinted ahead to an 18-8 lead. However, the Prairie Fire would not go down without a fight. Catessa Duran and Marissa Akers provided back-to-back kills to make the score 19-11. Lake Forest extended the lead to 24-12 before Knox had one last run that started with a kill from Thao Luong. 
 
The Prairie Fire surged back to make the score 24-17. After a timeout from Lake Forest, a block from Katie Anderson and Autumn Schneider gave Knox another point. The comeback would be too late as the Fire lost the second set 25-18.
 
In the third set, the first two points of the game went to the Prairie Fire. Catessa Duran contributed two kills for the Prairie Fire in the early going.
 
A service ace gave the Prairie Fire a 5-2 lead, but Lake Forest battled back to tie the game. After a kill gave the Prairie Fire a temporary lead, Lake Forest went on a 4-point run to take a 10-7 lead.
 
The Foresters soon took an 18-10 lead, but the run by the Prairie Fire towards the end was outstanding. 
 
Autumn Schneider, Marissa Akers, and Maddie Byrne each got a kill during the 5-point run for the Prairie Fire. That run from the Prairie Fire made the score 21-17. After a kill from Lake Forest, Marissa Akers answered with a kill of her own. Her kill ended up being the last point for the Prairie Fire as they dropped the third set.
 
Autumn Scheinder led the team with eight kills. Mady Ferris added 14 digs and Kylie Wolf notched 12 assists.
 
The Prairie Fire host Lincoln Christian University on October 22.
