GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire volleyball team defeated Lawrence 3-1 on Friday night.

Knox held a 14-11 lead in the first set, but the Vikings scored five straight to take the lead. Lawrence held on for a 25-22 victory in the set.

The Vikings took an early 10-4 lead in the second set, but Knox cut the deficit to 11-8. Lawrence responded with four straight points to take a commanding 15-8 lead. The Prairie Fire battled back to an 18-18 tie and quickly took a 22-19 lead en route to a 25-20 win to knot the match at one set apiece.

The third set was another back-and-forth affair with ties at 8-8, 10-10, 18-18, 19-19, and 20-20. Knox took control late as they scored six of the last seven points to win the set 25-21.

Knox held a slight 10-9 edge in the early going of the fourth set, but jumped out to a 15-10 lead shortly after and never relinquished the lead as they held on for a 25-19 win in the final set.

Catessa Duran notched 15 kills and five blocks to lead the Prairie Fire. Thao Luong added 12 kills. Mady Ferris managed 27 digs and Katie Anderson did a little bit of everything as she finished with 21 assists, eight kills, and 13 digs.

"We were pretty flat the first set and a half," said head coach Pat Barry. "We really turned it up a notch halfway through the second set and played to our capabilities from then on. Really proud of the way we fought tonight."

Knox will return to action as they host St. Norbert on October 5.
