MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Prairie Fire volleyball team fell to conference leader Cornell 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Knox took an early 10-3 lead in the first set, but Rams stormed back to tie the game at 10-all. The Prairie Fire trailed 15-16 late in the set, but Cornell scored nine of the next ten points to earn a 25-16 victory.
Knox again held an early advantage in the second set, after jumping out to a 10-7 lead. The Rams rallied back and won the set 25-17.
In the third set, Knox led 5-4 in the early going. Cornell quickly took a 12-6 lead and held on for a 25-11 win to end the match.
Catessa Duran and Autumn Schneider led the Prairie Fire with six kills apiece. Mady Ferris added 11 digs. Katie Anderson notched 10 digs and nine assists.
"We played well early in all three sets," said head coach Pat Barry. "Cornell is a very good team, but we showed that we can play at that level. We just need to find consistency."
Knox returns to action on October 11 as they travel to Grinnell.
