Volleyball Earns Comeback Win Over Eureka

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire volleyball team claimed a 3-1 victory over Eureka on Tuesday night.

Knox battled back and forth with the Red Devils in the first set, but Eureka won the set 27-25. The Prairie Fire took an early 12-4 lead in the second set, but Eureka battled back to within two and trailed 15-13. Knox finished with a 10-4 one to even the match at one set apiece.

In the final two sets, the Prairie Fire had to battle back from early deficits. The Red Devils jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set, but a run by Knox trimmed the lead to 8-7. Eureka used a 9-3 run to pull ahead, but Knox scored 15 of the next 19 points to claim a 25-21 win. The Red Devils led 15-6 in the fourth set, but the Prairie Fire again refused to give in and came back for a stunning 25-22 victory.

Catessa Duran racked up 22 kills for the Prairie Fire to lead the team. Mady Ferris added a whopping 33 digs in only three sets. Katie Anderson did a little of everything with 25 assists, 14 digs, seven kills, and five blocks. Autumn Schneider tallied nine kills and Marissa Akers notched eight.

"This was a big win for us," said head coach Pat Barry. "I saw some great things, we definitely saw some improvement from things we've been working on in practice. It was great to see Catessa have a good night."

Knox returns to action on September 11 as they host Rockford.
