WHITING, Indiana—The Prairie Fire volleyball team completed a pair of three set victories over Grace Christian and Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday night.
A 26-24 come from behind victory in the first set against Tigers set the tone for the night. Down 24-23, Knox reeled off four straight points to win the set.
The Prairie Fire used their momentum to jump out to an 8-1 lead in the second set, but Grace Christian used an 8-0 run to pull within two points at 17-19. Knox would hold on for a 25-22 victory.
In the third set the Tigers took a 4-1 lead, but the Prairie Fire quickly pulled ahead 6-4. Grace Christian tied the game at 10-all, but Knox took control from there to earn the 25-18 win.
In the night cap, Knox pulled off another come from behind victory over the hosts in the first set. The Crimson Wave held a 14-8 lead midway through the set, but the Prairie Fire took 17 of the last 25 points to earn a hard fought 25-22 win.
Knox erased an early 4-2 deficit in the second set and quickly took control to cruise to a 25-18 victory.
The fourth set was more of the same as Calumet took the early advantage, but the Prairie Fire took control after forcing a 16-16 tie and went on to claim a 25-19 victory.
Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 19 kills on the night. Mady Ferris added 42 digs and Katie Anderson notched 29 assists.
"We set the tone early tonight and fought throughout," said head coach Pat Barry. "I am proud of our progress and excited to show what we can do with some consistency as we head into the conference season next week."
Knox travels to Roosevelt on September 21 before opening Midwest Conference play as they host Illinois College on September 25.
