MONMOUTH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire swimming and diving teams competed in their first meet of the season on Friday night at Monmouth.
"This is the earliest we have ever had a meet and despite that and being worn down from midterms we had some really good swims," said head coach Jonathan Powers. "We have some things to work on and I am excited to see us improve throughout the fall. We are really young with most of the team having never swum in a college meet. I'm so proud of them."
Alyssa Stringer had a strong first college meet, picking up wins in the 50 fly (:31.54) and 100 free (1:01.51). She also placed a close second in the 50 free (:27.54), getting beat by just .12 secconds.
Rachel Schonfeld picked up three second place finishes in the 50 back (:32.01), 100 back (1:09.90), and the 100 IM (1:13.58).
Stringer and Schonfeld also teamed up with Kiely Thompson and Scout Nguyen for a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.
Joe Pederson placed first in the 100 back (1:05.44). He also earned second place finishes in the 100 IM (1:03.95) and 200 free (2:06.87).
Eita Ueda picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 50 breast (:36.39) and the 100 free (1:02.32)
"It wasn't quite the same to be at Monmouth without Coach Burek, but Monmouth is in good hands with Coach Dacus," added Powers. "This is always a fun first meet."
The Prairie Frie will return to action as they travel to Loras on October 23.
