Volleyball Drops a Pair in Tri-Match

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at home on Saturday. Knox fell to Grinnell 3-0 in a conference match to begin the day, before falling to Central 3-0 in the later match.

The Pioneers won the first set 25-20 to take the early lead. Knox held a 15-10 advantage in the second set, but Grinnell reeled off nine straight points to take the lead. They went on to win the second set 25-18. The third set was close the whole way, with Knox holding a 16-14 lead. However, the Pioneers used a 7-1 run to take a 21-17 lead. Grinnell held on for a 25-20 win.

In the second match of the day, Central took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-17. The Prairie Fire battled hard in the third set, exchanging leads throughout the set. However, the Dutch held on for a 32-30 victory.

Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 21 kills on the day. Katie Anderson racked up 52 assists and Kaitlyn Haase tallied 12 kills. Autumn Schneider added three blocks.

"We have battled some adversity this week and it continued today," said head coach Pat Barry. "We battled at times, but we have to get more consistent play to be able to finish the season strong. We have played with some good teams this year and now we just have to figure out how to finish."

Knox returns to action as they travel to Lincoln Christian on October 19.
