APPLETON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire volleyball team defeated Lawrence 3-0 on Saturday to move to 2-1 in conference play.
Knox held a 24-17 lead in the first set before the Vikings reeled off seven straight points to tie it up. The Prairie Fire refused to give in and took the next two points to win the first set 26-24.
After an early 12-7 deficit in the second set, Knox rallied to take a 16-14 lead. Lawrence tied the set at 18-all, but the Prairie Fire outscored the Vikings 7-2 the rest of the way to take a 25-20 victory in the second set.
Knox jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the third set. Lawrence cut the deficit to 13-11, but would get no closer as the Prairie Fire finished the set on a 12-7 run to win 25-18.
Catessa Duran led Knox with 11 kills. She added three blocks. Katie Anderson racked up 24 assists and 11 digs. Emme Patton tallied 14 digs. Payton Balfour picked up five blocks as well.
"It feels good to move to 2-1 in conference, it's definitely a good start to MWC play," said head coach Pat Barry. "We are playing good volleyball right now and will need to keep playing this way as we face some tough opponents these next few weeks."
The Prairie Fire will return to action on October 9 as they host Illinois College.
