Volleyball Earns 4 Set Victory Over Ripon

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team defeated Ripon 3-1 at home on Friday night.

The teams were tied at 12-12 midway through the first set, but Knox reeled off five straight points to take the 17-12 lead. The Red Hawks battled back to within two, but the Prairie Fire won the set 25-20.

Ripon jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the second set, but Knox battled back to within three to make it 18-15 in favor of the Red Hawks. It was all Ripon from there as they took the set 25-18.

The Red Hawks led 16-14 in the third set, but the Prairie Fire rallied to take a 20-16 lead. Ripon tied it up at 22-22, but Knox earned the final three points to win 25-22.

The Prairie Fire took a 14-6 lead early in the fourth set, but the Red Hawks came back to trail just 19-18 late in the set. After some back and forth, Knox came out with a 27-25 win to claim the match.

Catessa Duran led the Prairie Fire with 17 kills and picked up a pair of blocks. Emme Patton racked up 19 digs and Samantha Bergeron added 16 assists. Caroline Wolters tallied nine kills, while Kaitlyn Haase chipped in six kills, two blocks, and two aces.

"We needed that one after some rough games lately," said head coach Pat Barry. "We played a lot of players tonight and they all stepped up when it mattered most."

Knox returns to action on October 23 as they host Lake Forest their final conference match of the year.
