Women's Soccer Clinches 5th Consecutive MWC Regular Season Title

Box Score

With the win over Lake Forest College earlier today, the Prairie Fire women's soccer team claimed the top spot in the Midwest Conference and will host the 2021 Midwest Conference Tournament! The Prairie Fire played a tough match against the Foresters. The Prairie Fire found the back of the net early with a goal from Lydia Mitchell. The Foresters and the Fire went back and forth and went into halftime with a 1-0 Prairie Fire lead.

The Foresters came into the second half on fire. They immediately tied up the game within the first five minutes of the second half. The battle continued 1-1 into the second overtime. While both teams were preparing for a tie with a minute left in play, Lydia Mitchell wanted more. Mitchell scored her 13th goal of the season with 50 seconds left in the game to earn the Prairie Fire their 5th consecutive MWC regular season title.

"Today felt great" said captain and senior Lydia Mitchell. "What drives this team is playing for one another. We did just that today and it made the win feel even better. The title was just a cherry on top."

Knox is set to host the four team MWC Women's Soccer Tournament on November 5th and 6th. Semifinal games will be played Friday and the tournament final on Saturday. Lake Forest and Knox were the only teams prior to today to earn a spot in the MWC tournament. The remaining two tournament participants and game schedule are still to be determined. This is the fifth straight regular season MWC Championship and sixth consecutive MWC Tournament appearance for the Prairie Fire.

Knox is the first team in league history to have five consecutive regular season MWC Championships. The team has only lost two regular season conference games over the past five seasons and has won the MWC Tournament three times over that span. The team has gone 7-0 in conference this year with one game left and only allowed two goals in conference play.

The Prairie Fire return to action on Tuesday as they face Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL.
