Late Comeback Comes Up Short for Men's Basketball

Box Score EUREKA, Illinois - The Prairie Fire men's basketball team dropped a 96-88 game at Eureka on Wednesday night.

Knox won the opening tipoff and Jordan Rayner scored the first points of the game. The Red Devils took an early 13-6 lead, but Knox came back to take a 20-17 lead.

The rest of the first half was back and forth with the teams heading into halftime in a 42-42 tie.

The score remained close early in the second half, but Eureka began pulling away in the middle of the half.

With 4:59 left to play, the Red Devils held an 11 point lead. They expanded the lead to 15 with 2:39 left in the game.

Knox went on a 12-3 run late in the game, but Eureka hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Rayner led the Prairie Fire with 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting. Matt Garife added 20 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots from long-range. Cade Windham picked up a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Duane Goodman, Jr. also chipped in 10 points.

"We played with a tough team all game," said head coach Ben Davis. "Eureka pulled away late in the game and we made a late run that came up just short. We will get back to work this week."

Knox will return to action on November 23 when they host North Park.
