Box Score GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire women's soccer team secured their first win of the season on Saturday against Hope College.
The Prairie Fire and the Dutch went back and forth during the first half with the Dutch outshooting Knox 8-6. While the Dutch continued to outshoot Knox 22-12 throughout the game, Knox came into the second half with a fire underneath them.
In the first 5 minutes of the second half, Lydia Mitchell found the back of the net for the Prairie Fire. Mitchell, continued to lead the Prairie Fire in shots and scored her 3
rd goal of the season. Knox held back Hope College from tying it up with a standout defense and 6 saves from Prairie Fire goalkeeper, Carina Escobar.
"I am very happy with today's result and the work rate that our team showed. We have been working very hard on our style of play and today showed just how dynamic we can be. Hope College is a high-caliber team, and I am excited to see how we grow from here," said head coach Taylor Houck.
The Prairie Fire return to action on Monday, September 13
th at 7pm against Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.
