GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team took control from the beginning of the match to earn a three set victory over Lawrence on Saturday to move to 1-2 in Midwest Conference play.
Knox never faced much opposition until the third set, when the Vikings used a 7-0 run to pull within a point of the Prairie Fire late in the set. Leading 17-16, Knox won three of the next four points to take back control and cruise to the victory. The Prairie Fire outscored Lawrence 25-12, 25-12, 25-21 in the three set match.
Catessa Duran racked up 10 kills, five aces, and four blocks to lead the Prairie Fire. Abbie Layne added eight kills. Katie Anderson filled up the stat sheet with 19 assists, eight digs, three aces, and three blocks. Emme Patton tallied 18 digs, nine assists, and three aces.
"We played well from start to finish today," said head coach Pat Barry. "Lawrence made a run in that third set, but we rallied together to finish them off in three sets. Hopefully we can use this as a jumping off point for the rest of the season."
Knox returns to action as they host Monmouth on October 5.
