GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team defeated non-conference foe Rockford 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Knox scored the first six points in the first set, but the Regents quickly tallied four points to bring the score within two. Another 6-0 run later in the set put the Prairie Fire up 18-9 and they cruised to a 25-18 victory.
Knox took an early 10-3 lead in the second set and soon led 22-10. Rockford clawed back with six straight points, but the Prairie Fire came out on top 25-19.
The Regents looked to be control in the third set with a 20-10 lead. Knox scored six straight to make the game interesting, but still trailed 21-16 and 22-19. However, the Prairie Fire score six of the last seven points to win the match.
Katie Anderson led Knox with 31 assists and 11 digs. Caroline Wolters tallied eight kills, while Catessa Duran and Thao Luong added seven apiece. Duran tacked on five blocks, while Autumn Rapp and Peyton Balfour racked up four each.
"We played well for long stretches tonight," said head coach Pat Barry. "Even when we got down, we never stopped fighting and we had an amazing comeback in the third set to put the game away with a dramatic finish."
Knox returns to action on October 13 as they travel to Grinnell for a Midwest Conference match.
