GRINNELL, Iowa - The Prairie Fire swimming and diving teams competed at the first two days of the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday and Saturday.
"We have had a lot of good swims and more than a few personal bests and some swims with huge time drops," said head coach Jonathan Powers. "I am so proud of this team. They have persevered and are swimming well."
The men's 200 free relay team of Joe Pederson, Ren Herzog, Eric Xu, and Taro Tsukahara picked up 18 points for the team.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Owen Griffin, Joe Pederson, Eric Xu, and Taro Tsukahara grabbed 18 points for the team.
The women's 200 free relay team of Rachel Schonfeld, Alyssa Stringer, Kiely Thompson, and Sarah Ruttencutter earned 22 points for the team.
The women's 400 medley relay team of Rachel Schonfeld, Alyssa Stringer, Kiely Thompson, and Sarah Ruttencutter added 18 points for the team.

The women's 800 free relay team of Rachel Schonfeld, Alyssa Stringer, Chloe Rodeffer, and Kiely Thompson picked up 18 points for the team.
"This is a fast meet, faster than two years ago which is a credit to the teams on the conference," added Powers
Alyssa Stringer swam a great 100 fly and dropped over three seconds. Her 1:03 would have been 12th two years ago instead she finished 17th and missed the consolation final.
"As their coach it makes me so proud when they come back to the bench after having dropped a lot of time and even prouder to see the reaction of their teammates," concluded Powers.
