GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire track and field teams finished strong at the MWC Track and Field Championships.
The men's team finished fourth overall, the highest they have finished since 1995. The women's team placed eighth matching their place from 2018. Overall the teams recorded one conference record, two school records, five event conference champions and fifteen Knox top-10 performances.Â
Charles Broomfield was honored after the meet as the Elite 20 Award Winner and the Men's Field Performer of the meet. After winning the shot put on Friday, Broomfield won the weight throw today (17.14m).
Each year, the Midwest Conference recognizes the student-athlete, with the highest cumulative grade point average, participating in his or her respective sport's culminating championship or tournament event with its Elite 20 Award. The award recognizes the commitment of the student-athlete toward the pursuit of excellence in both the athletic and academic realms as measured by reaching the pinnacle of competition within the league, while also achieving the highest academic standard among peers.
Derrick Jackson picked up a pair of first place finishes in the men's 60m (6.90) and 200m (22.40).
Kendall Ballman earned fourth place in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.30m. He also finished fourth in the 60m (7.16).
Peyton Balfour earned a huge PR of over a meter in the women's triple jump (10.52m) to win the event.
"We had a great MWC meet," said head coach Evander Wells. "We had a bunch of PR's this weekend and great performances overall. We keep getting better each time out, excited to see where we can go."
