Derrick Jackson Comes Up Just Short of Qualifying in 60m

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina - Derrick Jackson missed out on qualifying for the finals in the men's 60m at the 2022 NCAA Men's and Women's Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. He ran a 6.87 in the third heat with the last qualifying time at 6.85 (6.847).

Jackson came into the event with the 20th best time in the nation and finished 13th overall in the preliminaries. His season best time of 6.85 would have placed him very close to qualifying. The top-8 times advance to the finals.

The 2022 Indoor meet was Jackson's third consecutive NCAA meet. Jackson previously attended the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships where he placed fifth in the 100m (10.61) and sixth in the 200m (21.47) to earn All-America status in both events. The 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships and 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships were not held due to Covid-19. Jackson also was set to attend the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships before they were canceled due to Covid-19. He also earned All-America status in the 60m after the cancellation.

Jackson set the Midwest Conference (MWC) Indoor Track and Field Championships record in the 60m (6.86) in the preliminaries on February 25. He went on to pick up a pair conference championships in the 60m (6.90) and 200m (22.40) in the finals on February 26. He was recently named Midwest All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"While it's not the outcome we hoped for, Derrick had another great season and came just short of qualifying for the finals tomorrow," said head coach Evander Wells. "Derrick has plenty of things left to accomplish and he will get to work right away to prepare for the outdoor season."
