Track and Field Travels to Mount Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Prairie Fire track and field teams traveled to Mount Mercy on Saturday to compete.

Derrick Jackson ran the best 100m time in the conference in the preliminaries (10.80).

Tyrell Pierce placed second in the men's 200m with a time of 21.90. He also finished second in the 400m (48.33). He improved his #2 Knox time in the 200m and moved to #3 at Knox in the 400m. He is ranked first in the conference in both events and sixth in the nation in the 400m for Division III.

Matt Lande earned eighth place in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:25.86.

Darnell Centeno finished sixth in the men's 110m hurdles (21.20). He also placed third in the triple jump (11.52m).

Justin Garcia placed eighth in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:01.55.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Trevor Geggie, Pierce, Yohane Griffin, and Derrick Jackson placed second (42.49). It's the #3 time at Knox all-time and ranks first in the MWC.

Kit Piepkorn earned sixth place in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.65m.

Ethan Sena placed third in the men's pole vault (3.70m).

Charles Broomfield earned second place in the men's shot put (14.45m) and hammer (48.21m) and sixth in the discus (41.15m). He improved his #1 shot put throw in the Midwest Conference.

Sophie Elstone finished eighth in the women's 800m with a time of 2:37.49.

Tara Irani placed sixth in the women's 100m hurdles (19.90).

Saxon Alvarez earned second place in the women's 3000m steeplechase (13:04.15).

The women's 4x100m relay team of Allie Dockins, Peyton Balfour, Meredith Lepper, and Ainara Rivera placed first (55.65).

Lepper earned first place in the women's pole vault (2.60m). She moves to #5 on the Knox all-time list and is currently first in the conference. Allie Dockins moved to #8 on the Knox all-time list as well.

Balfour placed first in the women's triple jump (10.55m), second in the pole vault (2.40m), and fifth in the long jump (4.63m). Her triple jump is #3 for Knox and first in the conference.

Kesha Jackson earned fifth place in the women's discus (32.06m) and eighth in the shot put (10.54m).

"We got some great weather and great competition and took advantage of it," said head coach Evander Wells. "We were able to execute well in our events and it shows in the number of PR's we saw today."

Knox will return to action as they travel to Culver-Stockton on April 23.
