Track and Field Competes at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire track and field teams competed at Monmouth on Saturday.

Tyrell Pierce placed first in the men's 400m with a time of 47.91, a PR that keeps him in second place at Knox all-time.

Brian Kishi earned third place in the men's 100m with a time of 11.25.

Matt Lande finished second in the men's 3000m steeplechase (11:12.19).

The men's 4x400m relay team of Justin Garcia, Owen Beaver, Trevor Geggie, and Pierce placed third 3:30.26.

Charles Broomfield placed first in the men's shot put (14.86m) to earn a PR and move into second on the Knox all-time list. He also placed second in the men's discus (40.55m) and fourth in the hammer (48.44m).

Kit Piepkorn earned third place in the men's javelin with a toss of 41.53m.

Saxon Alvarez finished first in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 13:11.80.

Peyton Balfour placed first in the women's long jump (5.40m) and fourth in the high jump (1.43m). She moved into second on the Knox all-time list in the long jump.

"We had some great performances today," said head coach Evander Wells. "We have consistently been getting better each time out. It was nice to see Peyton continue to improve in the long jump. Tyrell also had a nice 400m run and Charles continues to throw everything well."

Knox will travel to Beloit next week for the Midwest Conference Championships on May 13 and 14.
