MONMOUTH, IL - The Prairie Fire volleyball team fell to Monmouth College 3-0 Wednesday night.
The Prairie Fire took an early 6-4 lead in the first set. The Scots strung together four points taking the lead 8-6. Both team continued exchanging leads in an exciting first set. The Scots held off the Fire just enough to take the first set 25-20.
The second set started pretty back-and-forth with an even score of 12-12, until the Scots took five straight points to take the lead. The Scots remained ahead 22-15, but the Prairie Fire continued to rally with a consecutive five points of their own. Monmouth pulled away taking the second set 25-21.
Monmouth took a quick 5-1 lead in the third set. The Scots remained ahead and led the Prairie Fire 18-8 about halfway through the set. The Scots eventually took the third set 25-16.
Maya McEwen led the Fire with 10 kills. Chiho Okada added 22 assits. Emme Patton tallied 20 digs.
"Not the outcome we were hoping for, but I think we are definitely finding our groove"Â said coach Lisa Olson, "With that said, we still just have a few tweaks to make to get to where we need to be, but other than that I think we played well today against a tough team."
Prairie Fire volleyball will return to play on October 10th as they travel to Rockford University.
