Football Drops Close One to Ripon

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire football team fell to Ripon 10-3 in a conference home game on Saturday afternoon.

Knox marched down the field on their opening drive, but missed a field goal attempt after a 20-play, 58-yard drive.

The Red Hawks found the end zone on their second drive of the day in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Ripon added a field goal just before halftime to go into the intermission with a 10-0 advantage.

The second half saw only one score, a 20-yard field goal by Chris McMillan for Knox in the third quarter.

Kaile Williams led the Prairie Fire with 59 yards rushing and 48 yards passing. Izayiah Hawes added 50 yards rushing on nine attempts.

Jon Sarich led the Knox defense with 12 total tackles, including four tackles for a loss and a sack. Isaac Mora added 10 total tackles. Nikko Deligiannis tallied five tackles and two pass breakups, including one in the end zone to save a touchdown. Colin Finnigsmier also saved a touchdown with a big interception in the first half. Melakhi Folds blocked a field goal attempt in the second half to keep the game within a score.

The Prairie Fire return to action on October 14 as they travel to Illinois College.
