Track and Field Has Successful First Day at MWC Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Prairie Fire track and field teams competed at the first day of the Midwest Conference Championships hosted by Illinois College on Friday.

Peyton Balfour placed fourth in the women's long jump (5.14m) and advanced to the 60m final (8.19).

Derrick Jackson and Jonathan Bailey both advanced to the men's 60m final as the top seeds. Jackson's time 6.80 is a new MWC meet record and matches his previous Knox record. Bailey ran a 6.92.

Lance Miller Yates placed fourth in the men's mile. His time of 4:25.84 is a new Knox record.

The quartet of Jackson, Bailey, Trevor Geggie and Tyrell Pierce won the men's 4x200m in a Knox record time of 1:30.53

Kendall Ballman picked up fifth place in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.60m.

"It's great to start the meet with a few records and a relay conference champion," said head coach Evander Wells. "I hope we can carry this momentum into day two."
