Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Preview

RIPON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team is set to travel to Ripon for the fourth straight season and will look to upset the host Red Hawks once again. First they have to get past Illinois College, a team that has arguably been their toughest opponent the last two years.

Earlier this season, Knox beat the Lady Blues 80-70 on the road. The game was tied 52-52 after three quarters, but the Prairie Fire used a 28-18 fourth period to come away with the victory.ย

At home, Illinois College defeated Knox 91-76. The Lady Blues got off to a 27-10 start in the first quarter, but Knox battled back to within six with 2:57 left in the game. Illinois College finished on a 9-0 run to secure the win.

Last season, Knox held off a furious comeback attempt by the Lady Blues on the road for a 72-68 victory. At home, the Prairie Fire had to use a comeback of their own to win 63-62 after facing a three point deficit with 54 seconds left.

"Illinois College is a good team and one you definitely have to prepare for in the tournament," said head coach Seth McDowell. "We know that we have to focus on this game first, because any looking ahead will give them the advantage. We will have to play clean basketball and hit our open shots."
