Prairie Fire starting pitcher Sammy Garcia threw four scoreless innings before the Maroons got to him in the fifth. He left the game with just two earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. He struck out three.
Chicago ended up scoring seven runs in the fifth inning to take the 7-1 lead.
Knox got one run back in the bottom of the fifth as a sacrifice fly from Evan Laws scored Thomas Wilmot.
The Maroons added two more runs in the seventh and then broke the game open in the eighth to earn the eight inning victory.
"Sammy threw very well in his first collegiate start," said associate head coach James Clark. "Chicago can really hit and we kept giving them extra opportunities."
