GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Beloit 13-5 and 11-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers scored nine runs in the first three innings of game one. Knox scored a run in the bottom of the third and two in each of the fourth and fifth innings to bring the score to 10-5. Beloit held on as they scored three more in the sixth.

In game two, the Buccaneers scored and unearned run in the first and added three more runs in the fourth to take an early 4-0 lead. The Prairie Fire pushed across a run in the bottom of the fifth and then scored five in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. Evan Laws hit a bases clearing double to take the lead and Jason Clark drove him in.

Beloit added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to retake the lead. The Buccaneers tacked on four more runs in the ninth to secure the victory.

Evan Laws led Knox with five hits on the day. Nick Stan added four hits. Nicholas Nitti and Aidan McMurtrie tallied three hits apiece.

Nick Henning gave up one earned run over 6.1 innings. He scattered five hits and struck out eight.

"We were so close in game two," said associate head coach James Clark. "We hit very well today, but did not play our usual stellar defense. Beloit is a good hitting team and they took advantage of our miscues."

The Prairie Fire will return to action on April 7 as they travel to Beloit to finish the three game series.
