GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a close 5-4 game to Monmouth on Friday afternoon.
The Fighting Scots scored three runs in the top of the first on a few defensive miscues and then two more in the fifth.
Henry Scholes hit a two-run home-run in the bottom of the fifth to bring Knox within striking distance.
Jason Clark doubled in the eighth inning to drive home Nicholas Nitti and then stole home to bring the game within one.
Monmouth shut the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Nick Henning was the tough luck loser, allowing two earned runs in seven innings. He struck out five.
Evan Laws led the Prairie Fire with a pair of hits.
Knox will return to action on May 4 as they host Ripon to kick off a three game set. The Prairie Fire will celebrate senior day on May 5.
