GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference announced its weekly women's soccer award winners this afternoon, and Knox College forward Aleene Ramirez was named the Offensive Performer of the Week. She is the first Prairie Fire player to earn this honor since Lydia Mitchell on Oct. 25, 2021.
Ramirez, a senior captain from San Antonio, Texas, made sure Senior Day was a memorable one by recording a hat trick, scoring in the 20th, 35th and 77th minutes, and assisting on another goal to lead Knox to an 8-0 blowout of Eureka College on Saturday. Her three goals and helper matched her career totals entering the day, spanning 40 games.
Ramirez was also the first Prairie Fire player to score multiple goals in a game since Mitchell did when she was honored, and the first with a hat trick in five years, also by Mitchell against Benedictine University.
The victory snapped a 26-game winless streak for Knox and gave head coach Annie Gerdes her first victory leading the Prairie Fire.
Knox (1-6) will go for its second victory of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. when the Prairie Fire host the University of Dubuque at Jorge Prats Field. The game will be streamed live with stats available through the official website of Knox athletics, PrairieFire.Knox.edu.
