GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference announced its weekly soccer award winners today, and Knox goalkeeper Nicolas Lantzendorffer was honored as the men's Defensive Performer of the Week. This is the third time the fifth-year from Guatemala has earned the honor in his career.
Lantzendorffer opened the season by recording his 14th career shutout in a 1-0 victory at Rockford on Friday — Knox's first win in its season opener in seven years — then added a scoreless first half at St. Ambrose University (Iowa) before giving way to his backup for the second half. The Prairie Fire went on to earn a scoreless tie. The shutout required two saves, and he added four more in his 45 minutes against the Fighting Bees.
An All-MWC First Team performer as a sophomore, Lantzendorffer added Academic All-MWC honors in 2022-23.
Knox continues its eight-game road trip to start the 2024 campaign with a showdown at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, at West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Live stats for the game can be accessed through the official athletics website of Knox College, PrairieFire.Knox.edu.
Notes: Lantzendorffer first picked up this award as a sophomore (Oct. 4, 2021) after registering shutouts against Grinnell and Beloit … last year (Sept. 25) he received the honor for a 3-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan and a scoreless tie with Coe College, making nine saves in the two games combined.
