GALESBURG, Ill. — The Midwest Conference revealed its all-conference teams and award winners in women's basketball today, as voted on by the league's coaches, and Knox College point guard Bria Medina was chosen for the first team for the second straight year. In addition, the Prairie Fire received the Team Sportsmanship Award from the league.

Medina, a sophomore from Tucson, Arizona, was Knox's leading scorer and second in the league at 18.2 points per game. She tied her own school record for points in a season with 455, including a career-high 37 in a game against Millikin, the second most by a Prairie Fire player ever. Her 148 made free throws led the league and currently ranks ninth nationally, while her free throw percentage (.796) was the second-best and her field goal percentage (.455) was fourth.

But Medina was not simply a scorer. The product of Salpointe Catholic High School was also third in the league in both assists (3.4 per game) and steals (2.2 pg). She had at least one assist in all 25 games with a season-high seven in an 84-69 victory over Illinois college, and at least one steal in 24 of the 25 games, twice swiping the ball twice in a contest. Medina was even among the top 20 in the league in rebounding at 5.04 per game.

  • Medina is the fourth player in Knox women's basketball history to earn first-team honors more than once, joining Catessa Duran '23 (twice), Brooke McKinney '98 (three times) and Nancy Rabel '94 (twice).
  • Knox has had at least one player named to the first team in each of the past five seasons and to either the first or second team the past eight seasons.
  • This is the first year the team received the Team Sportsmanship Award, instituted in the 2017-18 campaign.
  • Women's basketball is the second Prairie Fire team to earn the Team Sportsmanship Award this academic year, joining the football squad.
