3/17/2026 10:30:00 AM

Chelsea McKee had a banner opening series for the Knox softball team. In Knox's opening sweep of Principia, she posted video-game numbers. Her performance powered the Prairie Fire softball team to its first 2-0 start since 2003.

For her efforts, McKee was named both the Midwest Conference Softball Positional Player of the Week and the Knox College Women's Athlete of the Week. MWC records show she is the first Knox softball player to earn this honor since Katy Coseglia, who was recognized for the week of March 25, 2019.

McKee was nearly unstoppable at the plate during the week, going 6-7 and batting .857, meaning she got a hit in nearly every at-bat. She hit three doubles, one triple, drove in six runs (RBI), scored four times, added a sacrifice fly, and stole a base. McKee had a slugging percentage of 1.571, showing her power hitting, and an OPS of 2.321, reflecting her combined on-base ability and power.

Meanwhile, Knox is in action in Florida this week, beginning play at the Spring Games on Wednesday.

First-year student-athlete Miles Hoops had a big pair of games last week, earning both the Knox Athlete of the Week and Midwest Conference Position Player of the Week Award. Hoops becomes the first Knox baseball player to earn the MWC award since Hayden Derlein won it on March 10, 2025.

In two games last week, Hoops went 5-7, meaning he got five hits in seven at-bats, drove in five runs (RBI), hit a double, and scored four times. In the second game of a doubleheader vs. Eureka, Hoops hit a grand slam. The Prairie Fire split the series with Eureka, earning their first win of the season. Hoops also successfully stole three bases in three attempts, collecting his first two multi-hit games of his collegiate career (more than one hit per game).

Knox is in action playing in the Russ Matt Spring Games in Florida, starting today.
