Mark Junk, a four year men’s basketball standout, graduated from Knox in 1991. He was an All-Midwest Conference selection each season he played between 1988 and 1991, and was named All Midwest Conference Second Team in 1988 and 1991, while he received First Team honors in 1989 and 1991. He was voted the Knox College basketball team’s MVP in both 1989 and 1991.
Dave Peck, who coached Mark in high school and for two years at Knox as an assistant under head coach Tim Heimann, said Mark led by example in all facets of the game. “Always unassuming, his work ethic was outstanding and he constantly improved the quality of daily practices. His competitive spirit was intense, and channeled in a positive manner, which earned him the respect of his teammates and opponents alike.”
Mark is currently third on the Knox College career points list with 1,646, and he averaged 21.1 points per game for his career, which is fourth all-time at Knox. He also holds the single season records for steals with 50.
“Mark’s quickness and jumping ability made him a rebounding force from the guard position and his anticipation skills and court savvy allowed his coaches flexibility in constructing the team’s defensive strategies,” said Peck.
Along with his impressive scoring numbers, Mark is also third on the career 3-point field goals made list at Knox with 181, and he was the Dick Pearson Free Throw Award Winner in both 1990 and 1991.
Mark lives in Saint Joseph, Michigan, with his wife, Tisha, and children, Cameron and Cailynn. He is employed by Whirlpool Corporation as Project Manager, North America Procurement.
