Women's Soccer Team Loses at Monmouth

The Prairie Fire fell behind early against Monmouth College and couldn't recover, falling 6-1 Saturday in a Midwest Conference match at Peacock Park in Monmouth.Prairie Fire Women's Soccer

The Fighting Scots (5-6-2, 2-2-1, MWC) scored two goals in the first 11:21 of the match for a 2-0 lead.  Monmouth added two more goals by intermission, then scored twice in the second half to increase the advantage to 6-0.

Knox (2-9-1, 0-3-1 MWC) avoided the shutout on a goal junior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, Washington) in the 66th minute.  Senior Emily Turner (Kildeer, Illinois) assisted on Dorman's ninth goal of the season. 

A forward, Dorman is among the Midwest Conference top 10 leaders in seven offensive categories.  She's is fifth in goals scored (9), goals per game (0.75), and points per game (1.83).  She's also tied for third in assists (4), is fifth in assists per game (0.33), seventh in shots (44), and sixth in shots per game (3.67).

The Scots outshot the Prairie Fire 25-5 overall, including 15-1 in the first half.  Monmouth, which moved up to fifth place in the MWC standings with the victory, took 12 shots on goal to Knox's three.

The Prairie Fire plays its third straight road match on October 22 at 11:00 a.m. against Lawrence University.  LU has won three of its seven home matches so far this season. 

The Vikings (4-9-1, 2-3-1 MWC) downed Beloit College (3-8-1, 0-5-1 MWC) 6-1 last Saturday in Appleton, Wisconsin to earn a split in their last four matches.

Knox, which has lost two straight, will try to end that streak before closing out the road trip on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in DePere, Wisconsin against St. Norbert College (7-7-1, 4-1-1). 

The Green Knights (3-2-1 at home), like Lawrence, have also split their last four matches. 

St. Norbert trails Midwest Conference unbeatens Grinnell College (7-3-2, 4-0-1 MWC) and Carroll University (6-6-1, 4-0-1 MWC) by one match on the loss side in the league standings.
