Big Blue Classic - Round 1 - October 2, 2011
The Prairie Fire shot a team score of 307 and sits in fourth place out of nine teams after the opening round of the tournament Sunday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Forsyth, Illinois near Decatur.
Senior Bobby Stuebi (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township)led the Fire with a 1-over par 73. He enters Monday's second round in fourth place. Sophomore James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) continued his strong play this fall with a 3-over 75 in the first round, good for sixth place individually.
The Prairie Fire trails third place Robert Morris University (IL) by just two strokes. Host Millikin University shot a 294, good for first place, and leads Webster University by eight strokes entering the second and final day of the tournament on Monday.
Also shooting well for Knox in round one was senior Jacob Lewis (Bloomington, IL, Downs Tri-Valley). He fired a season-best 77 (+5) to tie for 15th place overall.
The tournament is the last one on the fall schedule. The second round begins Monday morning.
Big Blue Classic - Round 2- October 3, 2011
The Prairie Fire had a difficult second round, dropping from fourth after the first round to place seventh out of nine teams in the tournament.
Knox shot a team score of 326 in round two and 633 overall, one stroke ahead of Fontbonne University (317-317-634). Opening round leader and host Millikin University won the team title with a 584 (290-294). Webster University also shot a 290 in the second round and finished as the runner-up at 592. Robert Morris University (IL) placed third with a score of 606 (304-302). Two other Millikin teams rounded out the top five.
Stuebi followed up his first round 73 with a 75 on Monday for a two day total of 148. He finished in a tie for fifth place overall with two other golfers. Fenner shot a 78 on Monday and tied for 15th place with a 153.
Lewis, who opened with a 77 on Sunday, carded an 87 in round two and placed in a tie for 35th at 164.
Senior Ben Wetherbee (Sydney, Australia, Woodstock) shot a 168 (82-86) and sophomore Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian)concluded the tourney with a 182 (92-90).
The Prairie Fire will be back on the course during the regular spring of 2012 season.
