Women's Soccer Hangs Tough but Falls to Monmouth

Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire stayed within a goal of Monmouth College until late in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday at Jorge Prats Field.

The Fighting Scots (5-6-3, 3-2-1 MWC) scored at the 11:13 mark of the match and led Knox (3-11, 0-7 MWC) 1-0 at the intermission. 

The Prairie Fire defense and junior goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) held Monmouth without another goal while trying to tie the contest until the Scots scored on a free kick at 79:32 to extend the lead to 2-0. 

Monmouth added the third and final goal of the match just 38 seconds later at 80:10.

Koene finished with 14 saves in the net.  The Fighting Scots outshot Knox 30-5 overall and 17-2 on goal.

The Prairie Fire has a busy Homecoming weekend with matches on Saturday against Carroll University and on Sunday against Beloit College.  Both begin at 11:00.

The two Knox seniors, Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor) and Sam Thomas (Algonquin, IL, Jacobs), along with their families, will be recognized at intermission of the Beloit match as part of Senior and Parents Day.
