Green Valley, AZ – A member of the Prairie Fire men’s golf team shot the low round and Knox secured two top 10 finishes at a two-day tournament over Spring Break in Arizona.

The Fire participated in The Tucson Games Invitational.  The first round was played at the Conoa Ranch course on March 14 and round two was played at Torres Blancas on March 15.  The Prairie Fire placed fifth overall in their first competition of the spring season, but the squad showed that it plans to be a force to be reckoned with in the second round.

Knox followed a tough first round with an excellent round two in the five-team tournament.  The Fire carded a 363 in the opening round before turning it around on the second day and shooting a team score of 311, the third best score of the day.

Sophomore James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora), who shot a 76 (+5) in the first round, turned in a 2-under par 70 on the second day – the lowest round in the field -- to finish at 146, good for second place in the tournament.

Senior Bobby Stuebi (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township) also had a strong showing in Arizona.  He opened with a 79 and followed with a 3-over par 75 in the second round for a two-round total of 154 and a sixth place finish.

Senior Jamie Jang (San Carlos, CA, Carlmont High School) played well in the one round he was able to take to the course.  He had to withdraw in the first round because of illness, then turned around and shot a 1-over 73 on the second day, which was among the top five round two scores.

Also on the course for the Prairie Fire was first-year Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian), who had scores of 95 and 93 for a total of 188.  Another first-year golfer, Mackinzie Champman (Sheffield, IL, Annawan), shot 113 and 100 (213) in the tournament.

The only golfer to shoot a lower score than Fenner was Jon Blazek of the University of Minnesota Crookston.  He finished at even par after scores of 71 and 72 for a 143.  Stuebi was just one stroke behind the fifth place finisher and two strokes out of fourth.

Knox, feeling positive after a solid second round with the addition of Jang – who earned a medal in the 2011 Midwest Conference Men’s Golf Championships –hosts the Prairie Fire Classic on March 30 and 31 at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg.

Tee time is at 12:00 p.m. on March 30 and at 9:00 on March 31.
