2012 Illinois Wesleyan Invitational – Normal, IL

Round 2: April 7, 2012

The Prairie Fire had a better second round, but it wasn’t enough to move in the team standings.

Knox shot a 333 to finish with a 670 overall, placing the squad 22nd out of 24 in the tournament.

Senior Bobby Stuebi (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township) fired a 78 in the second round for a 159 overall.  He tied for 50th individually.

Sophomore James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) improved on his opening round 85 with an 81 on Saturday.  His score of 166 placed him in a tie for 79th.  Seniors Ben Wetherbee (Sydney, Australia, Woodstock) and Jacob Lewis (Bloomington, IL, Downs Tri-Valley) shot 178 and 179, respectively.

The team champion was the University of St. Francis, which won a playoff against Nebraska Wesleyan after both finished at 602.  Carthage College, host Illinois Wesleyan, and Wheaton College rounded out the top five.

The individual champion was first round leader Wes Hillen of Millikin University.  He finished at 1-under 143.

The Prairie Fire next plays in the Augustana Invitational on April 13 and 14.

Round 1: April 6, 2012

The Prairie Fire is looking for a much better second round after no golfer broke 70 in the first round and the team finds itself in a tie for 19th place.

Knox shot a first round score of 337, the same as Elmhurst College, at Ironwood Golf Course.  The Fire trails18th place North Central College by three strokes and is 22 strokes behind of the top 10 teams.

Senior Bobby Stuebi (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township) shot the low round for Knox with an 81 (41-40).  Senior Jamie Jang (San Carlos, CA, Carlmont High School) is next at 83 (41-42) followed by sophomore James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora), who scored a 42 on the front nine and a 43 on the back for an 85. 

Senior Ben Wetherbee (Sydney, Australia, Woodstock) had the lowest nine hole score for the Prairie Fire with a 40 on the front nine.  He couldn’t manage the same success on the back nine and finished with an 88 in the first round.

Stuebi is tied for 52nd individually and Jang is tied for 67th.  The leader is Wes Hillen of Millikin University, who fired a 1-under par 71.  He was the only golfer to break par.

Leading the team standings after a playoff is the University of St. Francis of Joliet, Illinois with a 305.  The team the Saints topped in the playoff, Nebraska Wesleyan, also shot a 305.
