Men's Golf Plays First Tournament in Monmouth

Monmouth, IL – The Prairie Fire placed sixth in the team’s first event of the non-traditional fall season on Thursday in the Scot-Fire-Viking Invitational.

The golfers battled cool and wet conditions at Gibson Woods Golf Course.  Knox had a team score of 346.  Junior James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) led the way with a 78, good for a top 10 finish.

The Monmouth College Red team shot a team low 306, four strokes ahead of the Monmouth College White squad.  The Augustana College Gold team was third with a 314.

The individual winner was Monmouth Red’s Britt Bothast, who carded a 74 (+3).  Rhett Kuhnen of the Monmouth Gray was one stroke back at 75.  Another Monmouth golfer, Brandon Kemerling of Monmouth College’s White team, finished third with a 76.  Four golfers tied for fourth place after shooting 77s.

Fenner finished in a five-way tie for eighth place with his season-opening 78 on the par 71 course.  Sophomore Mackinzie Champman (Sheffield, IL, Annawan) had the second lowest score for Knox with an 86.  Sophomore Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian) finished the day with a 90 and senior Ryan Stefanczyk (Kohler, WI, Kohler) shot a 92.

Knox plays the second of three fall tournaments this season on September 21 and 22 at the Millikin Big Blue Fall Invitational in Decatur.
